A large and highly successful manufacturer of machined parts and components is looking to recruit a Business Unit Manager, responsible for Aerospace, Space and Defence market sectors, to be based at their Huddersfield offices.

The core focus of the role is to manage and grow the company’s business interests within the Aerospace, Defence and Space market sectors, both nationally and internationally, through devising and implementing sales and marketing strategies, sales team leadership, and key account management.

Role Responsibilities:

• Formulate marketing and sales strategies through annual and long-term business planning.
• Engage with other functional teams (Finance, Design Engineering, Production Engineering etc) to ensure their buy-in and support of business plans and to resolve cross-functional issues (e.g. prioritisation of projects or provision of support to other business areas).
• Provide monthly, quarterly and ad-hoc progress updates and reporting to ensure ongoing awareness, support and senior management agreement to any significant changes.
• Management of sales team and sales pipeline, including the mix of business/projects and balance of new/developing prospects alongside established business. Work with Technical Marketing to define areas for research.
• Prepare, review and sign-off quotations and proposals as applicable to ensure a profitable and sustainable business; including pricing, margins, risks, customer expectations and targets.

Skills and Experience Required:

• Commercial awareness through sales / marketing departmental management, including planning, P&L forecasting, tendering, and securing commercial contracts
• Defence or Aerospace sector experience, dealing with OEMs / Tier 1 companies
• Knowledge of military export licencing and government security classifications an advantage
• Relevant product knowledge an advantage – electro-mechanical parts and assemblies, actuators, gears, gearboxes etc
