Job Description

Commercial Management

• Lead and manage all commercial activities across multiple civil engineering projects.
• Ensure effective cost control, budgeting, and forecasting in line with project objectives.
• Oversee preparation and submission of valuations, applications for payment, and final accounts.

Contract & Risk Management:

• Manage contractual obligations, ensuring compliance with NEC, JCT, or other standard forms of contract.
• Identify and mitigate commercial risks throughout the project lifecycle.
• Handle contract negotiations, variations, and dispute resolutions as required.

Team Leadership & Development:

• Lead, mentor, and develop the commercial team, including Quantity Surveyors and Assistant QS.
• Ensure consistent application of commercial processes and best practices across projects.

Stakeholder Engagement:

• Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal teams.
• Provide commercial support to project managers, site teams, and senior leadership.

Reporting & Analysis:

• Prepare and present regular commercial reports, including cost-to-complete forecasts and project performance metrics.
• Monitor cash flow, profitability, and project margins, ensuring financial targets are met.

Skills & Qualifications:

Education:

• Degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field.

Experience:

• Minimum of 8-10 years of commercial management experience within the civil engineering sector.
• Proven track record of managing commercial teams and large-scale civil projects.

Technical Skills:

• Strong understanding of standard forms of contract (NEC, JCT, etc.).
• Proficient in commercial software and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, etc.).
• Strong financial acumen with excellent budgeting and forecasting skills.
