The project:

The project is situated on the Whiteknights campus of The University of Reading, a new Net Zero Carbon building funded by The Department for Science, Innovation and Technology through the Government Property Agency. The building will be the headquarters for the ECMWF, an independent intergovernmental organisation supported by 35 states. ECMWF is both a research institute and a 24/7 operational service, producing and disseminating numerical weather predictions to its Member States. The new building will house a range of key features including workspaces, conference centre, council chamber, restaurant/canteen, gym, weather room, central feature atrium and support functions.

• You will work as part of the construction delivery team, taking direction from the construction lead and project senior leadership team.
• You will build relationships to manage and influence stakeholders, both internally and externally.
• You will build a strong working relationship with your clients and support the construction lead in turning the client’s vision into a deliverable onsite plan.
• Responsible for the commercial management of subcontract packages from procurement to final account.
• Procurement of subcontract packages and materials including collating tender documentation & administering tenders.
• Accountable for commercial package management and reporting to the commercial lead.
• Establishes cost control systems including administering client and subcontract changes.
• Establishes risk and opportunity reporting mechanisms.
• Mitigates risks and protect package/project margin.
• Enhances profit by seeking opportunities through change and cost reduction measures such as value engineering.
• Operates and collaborates as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
• Works collaboratively towards the common goal of net zero carbon transition and share responsibility for the proactive identification and management of the associated carbon emissions and reductions during the delivery of work.

You’ll need to have:

• Proficient in MS office tools.
• Subcontract profit and loss reporting.
• Administering monthly commercial calendar.
• Experience in establishing cost control systems.
• Leading value engineer and cost exercises.
• Preparing monthly commercial reports.
• Developed planning and organisational skills.
• Ability to communicate, collaborate & network with key stakeholders and senior leaders.
• Established problem-solving skills.
• Ability to adapt and respond to change.
• Leads by example and demonstrates leadership behaviours.
• Degree in quantity surveying/commercial management (or equivalent). CSCS.

You’ll also have:

• Contract Management, including knowledge of Joint Contracts Tribunal (JCT) Suite of Contracts.
• Ability to apply detailed technical expertise managing complex tasks.
• Establishes clients’ requirements & manages expectations.
• Ability to build established and effective client relationships.
• Provides clear direction and creates a culture of high performance.
• Encourages and empowers others, providing praise & recognition of efforts.
• Actively supports the wider team to ensure plans are met.
• Chartered MRICS (or equivalent).
