DSD Construction is currently seeking a highly motivated and experienced Contracts Manager who is based in Cumbria.

Job Role

A contracts manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects relating to construction projects and ensuring that any issues which arise are resolved as quickly and effectively as possible. Further responsibilities of the Contracts manager include the financial monitoring and control of the contracts, ensuring Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality compliance is maintained, and the Company’s procedures and objectives are achieved. Selective specific details are listed below:

• Plan projects & ensure they are programmed to a level of detail necessary to deliver the scheme without delays.
• Ensure procurement & reconciliation of materials to best value & to prevent delays.
• Ensure site team compliance with Company commercial policies and procedures.
• Attend tender handover meetings as well as deliver pre-start meetings to the site team.
• Assist the Quantity Surveyor to ensure a commercial plan and end of life forecast is in place.
• Monitored monthly for the successful commercial delivery of the project.
• Assist the Quantity Surveyor to ensure correct commercial engagement of subcontractors.
• Implement the risk management process, review risk register, and check risk controls.
• Review the CVRs monthly with the project teams, implementing necessary actions.
• Distribute the Contract Initiation/Completion form for each project.
• Ensure weekly review of progress, budget resources & forward planning & lookahead programmes are in place.
• Attend/chair internal & external meetings to ensure the production of accurate records of any discussions & action.
• Ensure timely management of both temporary and permanent design to meet the requirements of each project.
• Set the highest possible standards of leadership in the promotion of HS&E procedures and best practice.
• Allocate HS&E responsibilities and duties for site personnel, check understanding and provide training as necessary.
• Maintain & manage construction sites & subcontractors, ensuring all procedures and processes are followed.
• Oversee & ensure that HSE-related documents are kept up to date and undertake senior manager site inspections.
• Liaise with third parties to ensure compliance with HAUC, NRSWA, Chapter 8 & other required regulatory standards.
• Build and maintain relationships with both the Client/Customers.
• Chair and lead meetings with the clients and report on progress to date.
• Ensure that works are carried out in a manner which minimises community impact.
• Assisting with the preparation of tenders for Clients and commercial bids to help bring in new business.

Knowledge, Education & Skills

• An understanding of the construction industry & contractual documentation.
• Strong leadership skills & business management skills with the ability to use your initiative.
• Extensive experience of managing projects within a resurfacing environment.
• Working knowledge of contract conditions, CDM regulations, design management, programme & risk management.
• Knowledge of cost control including forecasting, actual cost & value reporting.
• Experience of Microsoft project & appropriate IT knowledge.
• Knowledge of the NEC contract including the Early Warning and Compensation Event mechanisms.
• Diploma in Asphalt Technology and Pavement Design.
• Experience of Pre-Qualification & Tendering process for a number of multi-discipline projects.
• Excellent people management skills with the ability to influence and mentor.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with both customers and all levels of staff.

Additional information

Location: Carlisle, Cumbria, UK, with occasional travel when needed.
