Burman are supporting a public sector client appoint a HR Officer to support within the HR department. As a Human Resources Officer you will play a pivotal role in supporting the HR function and providing essential services to our employees. Working closely with the HR team, department heads, and administrators, you will assist in various HR activities, ensuring compliance, efficiency, and employee satisfaction across the institution.

Responsibilities:

• Support recruitment efforts by posting job openings, screening resumes, coordinating interviews, and facilitating the hiring process in collaboration with hiring managers and department heads
• Assist with the onboarding process for new hires, including conducting orientation sessions, preparing employment contracts, and ensuring all required documentation is completed accurately and in a timely manner
• Manage employee records and databases, ensuring data integrity, confidentiality, and compliance with relevant regulations, policies, and procedures
• Administer employee benefits programs, including enrolment, changes, and inquiries, and serve as a point of contact for employees regarding benefits-related questions and issues
• Assist with employee relations matters, including performance management, disciplinary actions, and grievance resolution, while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.
• Support HR initiatives and projects, such as policy development, training and development programs, diversity and inclusion initiatives, and employee engagement activities
• Coordinate HR-related events and activities, such as training sessions, workshops, and wellness programs, to promote a positive work culture and enhance employee morale
• Stay updated on HR laws, regulations, and best practices relevant to the higher education sector, and ensure compliance with local, state, and federal employment laws.
• Provide administrative support to the HR team, including managing schedules, preparing reports, and assisting with special projects as needed.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
• 2+ years of experience in human resources, preferably in a higher education or academic setting.
• Solid understanding of HR principles, practices, and regulations, with a focus on recruitment, employee relations, and benefits administration.
• Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple deadlines effectively.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with employees at all levels of the organization.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and HRIS systems; experience with PeopleSoft or other HRIS platforms is a plus.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality, exercise sound judgment, and handle sensitive information with discretion.
