Role Overview:

Our client, a leading civil engineering contractor, has successfully been awarded to complete several new substations, overhead line, and subsea cable routes projects across the North of Scotland for their key client, SSEN. As part of this new venture, the commercial team is on the lookout for an experienced and motivated Regional Commercial Manager to lead the commercial aspects within the high-profile multi-million-pound power frameworks. Given the various project locations throughout the North of Scotland, travel will be required as part of this role.

As this is senior appointment, we are looking for someone who comes with experience leading commercial aspects, ideally within civil engineering sector or similar, who can confidently jump into this role and take the reins.

Key Responsibilities:

• Communication:
• • Maintain effective communications with the Framework Director, commercial managers, project teams, and Divisional Commercial Manager.
• Reporting:
• • Prepare management reports for presentation to the senior leadership team.
• Staff Management:
• • Address staff matters, including succession planning, recruitment, development, attitude and behavioural issues, competency, retention, and staff allocation.
• Commercial Contacts:
• • Provide commercial contact with key supply chain partners through pre-contract meetings, contract vetting, and input to subcontract documents.
• Audits and Feedback:
• • Ensure audits are carried out and provide feedback to the business.
• Client Interaction:
• • Provide commercial input to contracts with clients and, if necessary, client’s representatives.
  • Regular meetings with the clients’ senior representatives and building relationships with key stakeholders (internal and external).
• Commercial Advice:
• • Provide commercial advice to commercial managers regarding all project issues and input to area commercial discussions/reviews.
• Project Strategy:
• • Take part in discussions concerning project performance and provide commercial input to project strategy.
• Dispute Management:
• • Provide input to dispute identification and management.
• Insurance Claims:
• • Produce and negotiate insurance claims with insurer’s representatives.
• Legal and Commercial Consultants:
• • Agree terms and engage legal and commercial consultants and monitor their accounts.
• Sub-Contract Documentation:
• • Carry out sub-contract document vetting and input to sub-contract documentation.

Essential Requirements:

• Educational Background:
• • Educated to a degree level as a minimum in a quantity surveying discipline.
• Professional Experience:
• • Previous experience working on water projects is essential due to the nature of the project.
• Relationship Building:
• • Experience in building and maintaining good working relationships.
• Contract and Measurement Competency:
• • Competent with all forms of contract and standard methods of measurement.
• Numeracy Skills:
• • Excellent numeracy skills.
• Technical Skills:
• • Competent using Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
• Driver s License:
• • Full UK driver s license.
• Willingness to Travel:
• • Willingness to travel as required.
